内容紹介：
房総半島東部の5万分の1勝浦地域とその北隣の上総大原地域には、前期更新世の前弧海盆堆積物である上総層群下部が露出する。同地域の上総層群下部には凝灰岩鍵層が多数挟まり、その一部は広域テフラであることが知られているが、多くは特徴が記載されていなかった。著者の中嶋は陸域地質図プロジェクトの一環として主に勝浦地域を、宇都宮は主に上総大原地域を担当して調査を行い、鍵層に関する情報交換と調整を行ってきた。その作業過程で、特に中嶋が蓄積してきたフィールドノートに記載された詳細なルートマップと柱状図などのデータが重要な役割を果たしてきた。それらのデータは露頭位置や鍵層の特徴を可能な限り詳細に記録しており、今後の房総半島における地質調査において極めて有用である。本報告では、これらの記載データを公表するとともに、これまでの調査で得られたテフラ鍵層の層序と名称などをとりまとめた。

The lower Kazusa Group (forearc basin-fill; Lower Pleistocene) is exposed in the Katsuura and Kazusa-Ohara districts, eastern Boso Peninsula, central Japan. There are many tuff beds intercalated in the lower Kazusa Group, some of them are known as widespread tephra. However, the lithological characteristics and stratigraphic levels were less described for most of the tephra beds in the lower Kazusa Group. The authors described some selected marker tephra beds in these districts for the geological mapping project of Geological Survey of Japan. The marker tephra names, geological traverse maps and columns would be useful to access the outcrop and identify the tephra beds.
