Tsunami deposits in the tidal marsh of Chuyaquen, south-central Chile.

Alternating beds of humic soil and tsunami or tidal flat sand are distributed in the tidal marsh of Chuyaquen located in the Pacific coast of South-central Chile. The sand layers have been deposited intermittently by at least four events in last millennium. Recent two events are correlated to the 1960 Chilean earthquake and the historical earthquake of AD1575. Recurrence interval is estimated to be 300-400 years. See a report by Shishikura et al. in pages 265-280 for details.
