International Training Course for CCOP Member Countries
GSJ International Training Course on Practical Geological Survey Techniques 2020
- Application to Geological Disaster Mitigation -
This training course is for young geological researchers and engineers who belong to national geological survey institutes in the member countries of CCOP (the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia).
Due to the spread of COVID-19 in the world, this training course was cancelled.
Training contents
Practical geological survey techniques for accretionary geology
- Geology (basic geology, field excursion and surveys)
- Petrology (petrographic thin section microscopy, elemental analysis using EPMA, etc.)
- Geochronology (SEM observation of radiolarian fossils, U-Pb dating of zircon, etc.)
Exploration and analysis techniques
- Gravity and magnetic survey
- Remote sensing
- Geographic Information System (GIS)
Application to geological disaster mitigation
- Geohazard (earthquake, volcano, landslide, etc.)
- Urban geology (3D modeling, earthquake, etc.)
And…
- Trainee’s presentation
- Visit to the Geological Museum of GSJ
- Visit to a geological consultant company

Access to GSJ, AIST
About 70 minutes by a limousine bus from the Narita International Airport to Tsukuba Bus Center.
Then, about 15 minutes by car from Tsukuba Bus Center to GSJ, AIST Tsukuba Central 7.
Accommodation in Tsukuba
A single room will be provided for each trainee in the AIST guest house, Sakura-kan, to which it takes 5 minutes by walk from GSJ (AIST Tsukuba Central 7).

There are cafeterias and a convenience store in AIST Tsukuba Central. You can take breakfast, lunch and supper there, and also go out for meals and shopping in the vicinity.
