Numarical simulation of the AD 869 Jogan earthquake tsunami, northeastern Japan
Tsunami deposits of the AD 869 Jogan earthquake tsunami were found in the coastal area from Miyagi to Fukushima prefectures, northeastern Japan. Comparison of the computed inundation areas with the spacial distribution of tsunami deposits indicates that interplate earthquakes of a 200 km long fault with 7 m slip (Mw8.4) can reproduce the distribution of the tsunami deposits. The cover shows four snapshots of computed tsunami at 0, 20, 40, and 60 min after the earthquake. See a report by Namegaya et al. (pages 1-21). Notice that a scale of water level is exaggerated than that of ground altitude.
