Tsunami deposits near the coast of Sendai Plain
There were pine tree belts along the coastal dunes of the Sendai Plain, but many of the trees have fallen by the giant tsunamis caused by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake. This photo was taken in the pine forest near the coast of Watari, showing fallen pines and a thick tsunami deposit. The dark bottom of the pit was the ground surface before the 2011 tsunami.
