これは温泉の湧出に伴って生成された円塔状の温泉沈殿物で，一般的には噴泉塔と呼ばれる．ガイザーズと命名されているが，間欠泉ではなく，絶えず温水を放出している．この噴泉塔は米国ネバダ州リノ市の北方約150kmの荒野の中にある．これは自然にできたものではなく，1964年にウェスタンジオサーマル社によって掘削された地熱井から漏出した温水が偶然にも造り出したものである．噴泉塔の褐色や緑色は，バイオマットをつくる好熱性藻類に起因している．噴泉塔の色合いと青空が見事なコントラストを示していて，荒野に花開いたオアシスのようである．
The Fly Ranch Geyser (Ward’s hot spring)
This is so called sinter cones produced by discharge of hot water. In spite of the name of Geyser, discharge of hot water is not intermittent but continuous. The Fly Ranch Geyser is located in the desert about 150 km north from Reno in Nevada, USA. This is not a natural phenomenon, but the fortuitous results of a leaking geothermal well drilled by Western Geothermal in 1964. The red and green colors of the tufa are caused by thermophilic algae. The contrast between colorful tufa and blue sky is impressive, and it looks like a colorful oasis occurred in desert.
